More than half a thousand Herend objects, worth more than 100 million forints, were exhibited at the beautifully renovated Semsey Castle of the popular market town.
The exhibition “In the Language of Art: Herend Porcelain” attempts to present a comprehensive selection of the amazing product range of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory. Besides the well-known patterns many bravura pieces, innovative novelties and installation surprises and solutions await visitors on the floor of the beautiful castle for the rest of the summer.
At yesterday’s opening ceremony, Csaba Sós, acting leader of the institution, greeted the large crowd mentioning that the palace had long had a wish to host a Herend exhibition, so a dream came true. Péter Hegedűs, Mayor of Balmazújváros, said that walking among beautiful pieces and admiring them was a great experience for everyone, so he hoped many would see the prestigious exhibition.
In his welcoming speech, Dr. Attila Simon, CEO of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, talked about the secrets of the success of the manufactory, and all that contributed to its past and glory. He emphasized the cultural mission of the manufactory having an important venue in Balmazújváros.
The exhibition was opened by Anna Kubik, Kossuth prize-winning and meritorious actress. Her personal memories of Herend porcelain, especially the figurine Mrs. Déry in two sizes on display, made the opening ceremony touching and festive. It was a pleasure listening to the actress’ memories about Herend!
