The Herend Porcelain Manufactory has been participating in the celebration of the literary tradition having European spirit for almost two decades: in addition to the swords and diplomas, the award-winning Hungarian and foreign poet and translator each receive a Balassi statue made of Herend porcelain.
This year, Hungarian poet László Kürti received the Bálint Balassi Memorial Sword Award, which was handed over by Bishop László Kiss-Rigó in Szeged. Another winner of this year’s literary award is Australian poet and translator Ross Gillett.
Dr. Attila Simon, CEO of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory Ltd., greeted the participants at the award ceremony in a video message. As he put it: “Today’s event is a celebration. We celebrate the practitioners of literature… We celebrate the literary-loving audience… We celebrate the perseverance and patience that are essential for one to get from the first steps of poetry writing to the value-passing literary.”
We hope that the winners, each possessing a Balassi sculpture made of Herend porcelain, will be reminded of the beauty of poetry by the beauty of porcelain as well.
