This year’s Saint Martin Award was given to dean-parish priest László Somos, Vicar General of the Diocese of Kaposvár and Chairman of the Board of the St. Elizabeth Foundation of Kaposfő.
The award was established by the Herend Porcelain Manufactory Ltd., the Pannonhalma Archabbey and the Bábolna National Stud Farm LLC in 2001 with the aim of contributing to the recognition of people who excel in creating the values of the Pannonian region and carry out the social commitment achieved in the region.
The laudation highlights that László Somos has worked in recent decades to ensure that those living in poor lines have a chance at a more humane life, thus regaining their self-esteem. He has been organizing food distribution to those in need, has operated schools where Roma children are cared for after school, and has set up community houses where adults get help find their way around their daily affairs.
In view of the Covid-19 situation, the ceremonial handover of the award at the Pannonhalma Archabbey was cancelled this year, instead the representatives of the award founders, Archabbot Cirill T. Hortobágyi, CEO Dr. Attila Simon and Director Gábor Haál presented the award to László Somos in person at the Diocese of Kaposvár.
