200 years of Herend porcelain: bicentenary celebration at Hungarian Embassy in Tokyo

2026. February 13.

The Herend porcelain exhibition, organized on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Herend Porcelain Manufactory Ltd., was opened by Daisuke Suzuki, CEO of Hoshi Shoji Ltd., and Dr. Emese Kovács, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy.

At the event, Dr. Attila Simon, CEO of Herend Porcelain Manufactory Ltd., greeted the visitors in a video message.

The exhibition features 200 teacup sets decorated with the well-known motifs of Herend Porcelain Manufactory. The guests paid particular attention to the pieces created by Herend master painters for the anniversary, such as the butterfly-motif porcelain items and the three-dimensional porcelain plaques, both reflecting Herend’s rich traditions and open attitude to renewal.

Several renowned Japanese artists, who have previously collaborated with Herend Porcelain Manufactory on several occasions to create joint works, also participated in the event. The evening’s cultural program was closed by a musical performance by Máté Kamarás and Yamaguchi Natsuki.

The festive occasion had great diplomatic and cultural value: the 200th anniversary of Herend Porcelain Manufactory created an opportunity for Hungary to further strengthen its cultural presence and country image in Japan, one of the world’s most significant and demanding premium craft markets, thereby significantly contributing to the deepening of Hungarian-Japanese cultural relations.
