Strategic partnership between the Herend Porcelain Manufactory and the Hungarian National Archives for the preservation of cultural heritage.
Founded in 1826, Herend Porcelain Manufactory is not only the world’s largest porcelain manufactory, but also the guardian of the outstanding heritage of Hungarian applied arts traditions. In addition to its business successes, the Manufactory has also undertaken a cultural mission: its goal is to nurture, preserve and pass on Hungarian and European artistic values to future generations. Over the past nearly 200 years, Herend Porcelain Manufactory has not only become world-famous in the art of artisanal porcelain making but has also created a rich documentary heritage including historical documents, shape and pattern design traditions, which are valuable parts of Hungarian applied arts treasures.
To ensure that this unique heritage is preserved in the long term, Herend Porcelain Manufactory has entered a strategic partnership with Hungarian National Archives. The aim of the partnership is to professionally process, digitize and preserve the historical documents and photographs of the Manufactory, making these invaluable materials accessible to the wider public. The expertise of Hungarian National Archives ensures that the heritage of Herend Porcelain Manufactory is processed at the highest professional level, thereby contributing to the strengthening of Hungarian cultural identity and historical awareness.
In addition to preserving traditions, this cooperation also creates an opportunity for Herend Porcelain Manufactory’s artistic heritage to live on in the modern digital world. Through the digitization of documents and photographs, not only researchers and art historians, but also the public can gain insight into the secrets of porcelain making and the Manufactory’s nearly two-century history.
Herend Porcelain Manufactory and Hungarian National Archives share the goal of preserving the values of the past for the future, thereby contributing to the enrichment of Hungarian cultural heritage. This partnership serves not only to process and preserve the history of Herend Porcelain Manufactory, but also to pass on the legacy of one of the most outstanding works of Hungarian applied art.
