“Herend Porcelain in a New Dress” at Esterházy Summer Palace in Tata

The exhibition commemorates Mór Fischer, born in Tata, who made the Herend porcelain manufactory flourish. The pieces of the collection are typically rarely seen porcelain creations and decorations, among which the Emperor Franz Joseph’s court set with his monogram and the Hungarian royal crown, painted with real 18-karat gold, is worth highlighting. The porcelain items are presented in their function and the mannequins on display are made special by Herend motifs painted by the careful, expert hands of the Herend porcelain painters, and the patterns of the porcelain creations live on in the dresses presented. The exhibits connect the past, Mór Fischer, who raised the Manufactory to international status, with the innovative product development of the present.

In his opening speech, CEO Dr. Attila Simon emphasized that the Herend Porcelain Manufactory is a culture- and value-creating community whose task is to preserve and pass on its centuries-old values, where beauty, uniqueness and high quality are part of everyday life and the community has a clearly marked path: namely, to preserve the values ​​and integrity of the manufactory, to pay attention to traditions, to always choose the method of artisanal porcelain production, to constantly innovate, to surprise the world by being ahead of others in creating style, and to ensure the livelihood and development of the Company and its creative community and employees. The people of Herend consider it their task to nurture, preserve and pass on the national and European values, especially artistic values, to future generations. Day after day, the goal of the Manufactory’s community is to show an alternative to the paper tray world of fast-food restaurants, promoting with its activity the eternal existence of porcelain as a material and a natural part of the material environment of cultured humanity, and defying the shoddy objects of the cultural change of our time. In the past decade, the Manufactory has opened approximately 150 Herend porcelain art exhibitions in Hungary and abroad, thus significantly contributing to building a positive country image. The Manufactory is glad to have come to Tata with this exhibition, at the same time paying tribute to Mór Farkasházy Fischer, a former native of Tata, who was an outstanding company manager of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory in the 19th century.

At the opening of the exhibition, József Michl, Mayor of Tata, said: “Thanks to Herend for the love of our city, for the fact that the Manufactory does not forget its cradle, and thanks to everyone who has been or is involved in passing on and preserving this beautiful heritage.

The renewed exhibition can be viewed from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 at the Tata Little Esterházy Palace in the English Garden.
