Renewed Herend porcelain Trophy for the winners of Blue Ribbon sailing regatta

2022. July 19.

The 54th Blue Ribbon Raiffeisen Grand Prix, which resulted in several records, ended in a festive setting. In the absolute ranking, the crew of the boat Raiffeisen Fifty-Fifty took first place and set a new record time. The main prize, according to tradition, was a magnificent Herend Trophy!

Based on the idea of tradition and innovation, the Herend Porcelain Manufactory has renewed the Blue Ribbon main prize this year. The main prize is 50 cm high, 30 cm wide and weighs 3.5 kg. The new creative depicts the silhouette of a sailing ship. Under the boat, the water of Lake Balaton ripples, then changes into a strip, thus referring to the name of the regatta.

The regatta was first held in 1934, the essence of which was that the Blue Ribbon of Lake Balaton could be won by any sailboat that sails around the lake the fastest on the set distance, according to the clockwise direction. The regatta became more and more popular, and in 1955 the 75 cruiser Nemere II completed the distance in 10 hours and 40 minutes. This fantastic record was broken only 57 years later, in 2012, by the Hungarian-developed two-masted Fifty-Fifty, a catamaran made of high-tech materials. 10 years later, this year, Fifty-Fifty was able to break its own record by taking first place with a time of 7 hours 13 minutes 21 seconds. The Blue Ribbon has become Europe’s largest round-the-lake race with at least six hundred participating boats. Traditionally, the race always takes place on the weekend in July closest to the full moon.
