New public work of art from Herend

2023. September 14.

A new public Herend porcelain work of art has been installed in the courtyard of the Festetics-Chernel Palace, Kőszeg. The porcelain relief was made by Herend in honour of the pioneer of genetics, Count Imre Festetics.

In the spirit of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory’s cultural and social mission, a number of public works of art has already been placed in its surroundings, such as the “Herend tree” set up in downtown Veszprém and at the roundabout next to the Arena, the Ecce Homo porcelain sculpture at the entrance to St. Benedict Hill, also in Veszprém, and the Herend porcelain sculpture “Handshake” in the sculpture park in Balatonalmádi, but there are also numerous public works of art of Herend in smaller settlements like Herend and Szentgál. High-value Herend works of art can be found in many public buildings, such as the Parliament of Hungary, the Hungarian Opera House, or the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest, furthermore, Herend works of art decorate the interior of the Heart Hospital in Balatonfüred and the St. Imre Chapel in Alsópere. All these works of art have been placed in the spirit of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory’s cultural mission, without compensation of any kind.

With the statue placements, the Herend Porcelain Manufactory not only follows its cultural mission, which it started very consciously nearly two decades ago, but also wants to live up to its own values, contributing to the beautification of public spaces and the human environment, and to raising its quality level. “Our goal is to leave more to posterity than we received from our predecessors”, said CEO Dr. Attila Simon.

Now another public Herend porcelain work of art has been installed in the courtyard of the Festetics-Chernel Palace, Kőszeg. The porcelain relief was made by Herend in honour of the pioneer of genetics, Count Imre Festetics. It was he who discovered the law of heredity and published the term “genetics” for the first time in the world. The relief created by porcelain design artist Ákos Tamás was inaugurated on September 13, 2023, as part of the 9th International Kraft Conference. At the inauguration, Dr. Péter Poczai, research director of the Finnish Museum of Natural History, and Dr. Attila Simon, CEO of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, gave a speech.
